Last Wednesday night my sister called me from NJ to let me know that my Dad had been rushed to the hospital. He had a stroke. I stayed by the phone and waited for updates but the news changed from bad to worse. He had been airlifted to a hospital with a special trauma center but they could not do the surgery right away because he was taking blood thinner medicine for his heart. By the time surgery could safely be performed the bleeding was so severe and stroke had become fatal. The last call I got from my sister was to tell me get on the first plane to Jersey possible.I left on Thursday.
I am so grateful that I was able to make it there be with my family and see him one last time.
He passed away on March 13, 2009.
He was a super great father, a very talented artist, an accomplished sailor, a good cook, kind, compassionate and put his heart into everything he did. He was also a teacher both in the classroom and out. He loved to share stories and gave great advise.
He did this self portrait
Dad I am really gonna miss you. Thank you for everything.
I hope to honor you everyday but you left behind some mighty big shoes to fill.
